Cheapest median first

Iowa has the lowest median among states with at least 10 priced stations — $0.28 per kWh across 34 stations. Arkansas has the highest, at $0.46 across 24. A state with a handful of priced stations is listed but not ranked: one station is not a median.

Priced stations counts the stations quoting a per-kWh tariff, out of every station in that state. Range is the cheapest and dearest listed tariff in the state, which is why a state's median and its range rarely tell the same story.

What each network charges

Networks with 20+ priced stations

A network's median is the middle of every per-kWh tariff its stations list. Most of these networks sell to the property rather than to the driver, so the owner sets the price and the network only runs the payment — read this as the shape of a network's estate, not as a tariff it will quote you.

How these numbers are made

A median of listed tariffs, not a quote

Every station record carries the tariff its network lists. 3,805 of 6,338 list a price per kilowatt-hour; those are the ones counted here. The rest bill per minute, per hour or per session, or list no price at all, and are left out rather than converted at an invented rate.

The page reports medians rather than averages because one mispriced station — a $1.50-per-kWh lot downtown — moves an average and barely moves a median. The range column is there so the spread is visible instead of hidden behind the middle.

Fees are not in the number: a connection fee, an idle fee, a per-minute parking charge at the site, or the hotel guest-only rule are shown on the station page where we have them. Networks change tariffs, and a record is the network's own listing rather than a reading at the charger.

Prices read from the station data written October 2026.

Common questions

How much does public EV charging cost per kWh?

$0.35 per kWh is the median of the 3,805 stations in this directory that list a price. 2,465 of them — 65% — charge $0.40 per kWh or less. Prices are set per site, so a network's national median is a guide, not a quote.

Which state has the cheapest EV charging?

Among states with at least 10 priced stations, Iowa has the lowest median at $0.28 per kWh (34 stations), and Arkansas the highest at $0.46 (24). Charging is priced per site, so the gap between two states is smaller than the gap between the cheapest and dearest station inside one.

Which network charges the most per kWh?

Among networks with at least 50 priced stations, ViaLynk has the lowest median at $0.30 per kWh across 68 stations; Blink the highest at $0.49 across 218. Host-owned networks price each site separately, so a network median describes its estate more than its tariff.

What is not included in these numbers?

Only per-kWh tariffs. Session and connection fees, idle fees, per-minute and per-hour pricing, and parking charges at the site are not in the median — they are listed per station and not comparable. A free session is not in the median either: the record shows no free public stations in this directory.
